Schengen Visa

Countries that have signed the Schengen Agreement apply a common visa policy. The Schengen group requires only one visa. This means that a person wishing to travel anywhere in the Schengen area needs to get only one visa. From the first day of Lithuania’s joining the Schengen group, institutions of the Republic of Lithuania has started to issue Schengen visas and have the access to the Schengen Information System, including the system of Schengen visa inquiries.

What is an invitation letter?

An approved invitation of a legal or natural person for temporal arrival of an alien to the Republic of Lithuania is a document confirming the obligation of a legal or natural person of the Republic of Lithuania to look to it that an alien arriving to the Republic of Lithuania is properly accommodated during the period of his stay in the Republic of Lithuania while possessing a visa and in case of a need to cover the expenses of a return of an alien to his country of origin or to a foreign country where he has the right to go. All invitation letters must be approved by migration department.

Who can get invitation?

Invitation is confirmed under the application of a legal or natural personality willing to invite an alien to come to Lithuania. Invitation is confirmed under the application of a natural personality over 18 years old, who is a citizen of Lithuania and permanent reside in Lithuania or is an alien but posses a permanent residence permit or a permit of a long term resident of the Republic of Lithuania to reside in the European Community and having declared a place of residence in Lithuania

VISA CHECK LIST Short-stay Visa (C) (documents required to submit):

1. A valid travel document (its period of validity must exceed the validity period of the requested visa by at least three months)
2. A completed application form with 1 recent color photographs in the size of 3.5 cms x 4.5 cms with white / light background. The face should cover about 80% of the photo area
3. A copy of Invitation Letter, approved by the Migration Office in Lithuania.

5. Hotel reservation
6. A copy of overseas medical insurance policy (equivalent to 30,000 euros, valid in Schengen area). Please carry your original insurance for verification at the time of submission of visa application form
7. Documents substantiating the available means for travelling and return to the state of origin (bank statements, salary slips, sponsor‘s letter etc.)

In case the applicant is going with the purpose of Business, the following additional documents need to be submitted:

8. Cover letter from applicant, explaining the exact purpose and duration of stay in Lithuania
9. Official invitation from Lithuanian partner stating purpose of travel and intended time of stay
10. Official letter from the employer stating exact purpose of travel, applicant’s designation and applicant’s monthly income
11. Bank statements of the company covering the last 3 months
12. Proof of employment for the last 12 months
13. Salary slips for the last 6 months
14. Documents, data indicating present and previuos activities of the businessmen/artists/sportsmen
